TCYC presents the Catalpa Cup

The Catalpa Cup is held annually in early December and to put it simply... it's a 'drag race' from TCYC to the Fremantle Sailing Club.

The format for the race is the fastest times in any fleet with Overal First, Second and Third fastest.

This enables different Divisions, and Classes within those Divisions, to set records each year (possibly).

The race commences with a handicapped start which keeps most boats mystified on final results.

The name was derived from the American ship which spirited away the Irish-Fenian prisoners who had escaped from Fremantle Gaol, made their way to Rockingham and rowed out to the 'Catalpa' making swift passage to America.

Our thanks go to Artist, Phil Williams, for making the perpetual trophy which is a sight to behold.

Don't forget the following day is the return race "The Ode Saw"
